SUMMARY:¡Alebrijes!- A Día de Muertos Tale
DESCRIPTION:A mythologized account of Linares’ life (and almost death!)\, this screwball comedy is about art’s capacity to transcend mortality. Audiences will follow Pedro on his nostalgic visit to Mexico City in 1936\, discover his special relationship to his animal totems\, and join him in his journey through a psychedelic Oaxacan underworld. \nWhen Pedro attempts to trade his soul with La Muerte to save his brother\, he quickly learns that one shouldn’t try to strike bargains with Death. After Pedro’s alebrijes rescue him from his near-death experience\, he realizes the importance of relationships\, and he fulfills his artistic potential by creating something that becomes a cultural legacy. ¡Alebrijes! celebrates the beauty and absurdity of life\, art\, and love\, and invites us to consider that death is not a severance\, but an evolution.

SUMMARY:Milagro Theatre - Muertos & Altares Bike & Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Muertos & Altares Bike & Walking Tour\nSat\, Nov 1\, 12:00 NOON – 3:00 PM\nEl Zócalo @ Milagro\nThe 5th annual Altares y Muertos Bike & Walking Tour will begin at 12:00 Noon with bike/shoe decorating\, with participants starting their tour at approximately 12:30 PM. Riders are invited to gather at El Zócalo @ Milagro (corner of SE Grand & SE Sixth Avenues) to view the first two altar displays. Milagro staff will give all riders a garland of artificial marigolds\, whose orange and yellow colors are believed to represent sun and light\, helping to guide spirits back to the world of the living. Día de los Muertos tradition calls for the building of ofrendas (altars) that often feature the deceased’s photographs\, along with favorite things and other memorabilia. It is believed that the ofrendas allow departed souls to reunite with their living loved ones for this short but special window of time. This year’s bike ride marks a powerful transition – crossing the bridge to expand partnerships into the Northeast\, uniting two neighborhoods through Mexican tradition\, art\, and collective memory. Riders are given maps\, coordinated by The Street Trust\, to follow a pre-determined route\, stopping intermittently at participating businesses that are hosting altars for public viewing. The public is encouraged to dress in costume and decorate their bikes for the occasion.\nAdmission: Free \nClick here to register.
