SUMMARY:Community Harvest Mondays
DESCRIPTION:Community Harvest Mondays is a weekly volunteer gathering rooted in stewardship\, shared labor\, and food access. Each Monday\, community members join us in the field to support seasonal maintenance and harvest fresh produce for local food distribution. \nVolunteers participate in hands-on agricultural work\, planting\, weeding\, harvesting\, washing\, and packing\, while learning how food moves from soil to community. A portion of each harvest supports local food access efforts\, helping ensure fresh\, culturally relevant produce reaches families in our area. Volunteers are also invited to take home a share of the harvest as appreciation for their time and contribution. \nThis is an opportunity to build practical skills\, connect with the land\, and take part in a consistent\, meaningful effort to grow and share food with dignity and care. \nNo prior experience is necessary. All are welcome.

SUMMARY:Nonprofit Board Basics That Actually Matter: How Boards Are Supposed to Work… and How They Actually Do
DESCRIPTION:Nonprofit boards are often told how they are supposed to work\, but the reality can look very different. When roles are unclear\, power is misunderstood\, or structure is missing\, things can quickly become confusing or ineffective. \nThis session breaks down both the rules and the reality of board service. We will cover where authority actually lives and how it is delegated\, the differences between board and staff roles\, and how officers and committees function in practice. We will also explore how bylaws guide decision-making and what effective meetings look like\, including a practical overview of Robert’s Rules of Order. \nYou will learn how fiduciary duties show up in real situations\, how to navigate conflicts of interest\, and how to recognize and address common board challenges like disengagement\, overstepping\, and decision-making outside of meetings. \nWhether you are new to board service or looking to strengthen your current board\, this session will help you move from confusion to clarity and from theory to practice. \nWhat to Expect:\n\nClear understanding of how boards are supposed to function and how they often operate in reality\nPractical guidance on board vs. staff roles and boundaries\nOverview of bylaws\, officers\, and committee structures\nBasics of effective meetings and decision-making\nReal-world explanation of fiduciary duties and conflicts of interest\nInsight into common board challenges and how to navigate them\n\nPresenter: Michael Jonas\, JD\, MBA\nHosted by: Narwhal Law & Business Strategy\nRegistration via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/narwhal-law-and-business-strategy-86998676433
