Donating blood is a safe process. Each donor’s blood is collected through a new\, sterile needle that is used once and then discarded. Approximately 57% of Hispanics have type O blood. Type O blood is the most transfused blood type\, the one with the highest demand and is most often in critical supply. \nIt’s the blood on the shelves that saves lives in an emergency and helps ensure patients battling chronic illnesses like cancer have the strength to keep fighting. \nApproximately 1 in 3 Hispanics will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Many of these patients will require blood products in the fight to beat cancer. A quarter of the U.S. blood supply is used to help treat cancer patients —more than any other disease type.
